Youth Anthems #24 – The 6th Birthday
6?! We haven’t got much longer before the kids who started off at YA #1 will be rebelling and refusing to come to the gigs so we better keep up the solid gold line ups. Just a hint about the one; I booked all the gigs for 2019 in one go and thought the first two would sell well enough with the second two selling out. Well the first two sold out in record time so I wouldn’t mess about booking for this one!
At this family friendly, all ages, welcoming to all, accessible matinee gig (and let me know any way we can make it more accessible) alongside face painting, cake from That Old Chestnut and a fully stocked bar (their coffee fuels the inner workings of the gig) we have the following incredible live bands:
Biscuithead and the Biscuit Badgers
You know them, you love them. If you don’t then come and find out what you’ve been missing out on. Yorkshire’s most talented, eccentric and loveable proponents of their unique blend of pop, skiffle, jazz, swing and whatever else they fancy throwing into the mix. With songs covering such diverse topics as cheese, soy milk, dinosaurs, model railways and new bathrooms you are in for one heck of a treat. All things going well this will also be an album launch of sorts for their new album (and by all things going well – we mean the album actually being out for the gig..!)
The returning hero! In the couple of years since Isaac played for us he’s released his second album “Welcome to the Revolution” and seen his self described “Politi-folk comedy music” really develop into its own sound with gigs all over Yorkshire and beyond building him a real following. Oh and he’s only just a teenager…
Tower of Song meets Youth Anthems
Tower of Song is a legendary Leeds open mic night co-run by our best pal Nicky Bray and her best pal Carl Flattery. Musicians are invited to perform a song based on a different theme each month and an amazing time is had by all (past themes include “Unsolved Mysteries meets Abba” and “Responses to Famous Songs in the style of Twee Pop”).
For this gig Tower of Song have selected the theme (in a tribute to our wonderful headliners) of FOOD AND ANIMALS and we’re asking you (YES YOU THERE!) to write a song on that theme to perform on the day. You can choose FOOD or ANIMALS or both!
We will have space for 4 performances to open this gig so please message the Tower of Song page (facebook.com/towersongleeds or email firstname.lastname@example.org if you don’t have a Facebook account) before the start of June with information about your idea and who would be performing. Apologies in advance if we receive more requests than we can accommodate!
There are a couple of rules and these are: Each act needs to have a young person involved, but they can have a Parent/Guardian helping out (we’d love to see collaborative family performances!), no swearing or anything that could be considered racist, homophobic, sexist or transphobic. Ideally no longer than 5 minutes. Other than that knock yourself out! We have a full backline available so just let us know what equipment you’d need and how long the song will be.
